Executives from Facebook, Twitter and Google testified on Capitol Hill about efforts to counter online terror content, hate speech and misinformation on their platforms. The social media officials all agreed on the importance of prohibiting online terror content and recognized their commitment to free speech. They also discussed company actions involving foreign interference in U.S. elections, a manipulated video of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and the Facebook Live stream of the mosque shootings in Christchurch, New Zealand. Nadine Strossen, a New York Law School professor, also testified. Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) served as chair of this House Homeland Security Committee hearing.
